I recommend Gary Woonteiler wholeheartedly without reservation to any company or organization looking to meet its marketing communications and public relations needs in very professional and cost-effective ways.
As Director of Public Relations for the award-winning, full-service, advertising/PR agency KK&M, then as VP of Hill & Knowlton, and finally as founder and head of Woonteiler Ink (Wink), Gary played a key strategic and hands-on marketing role with Standard during a dramatic, 15+ year period of growth (i.e., over 400%). During this exciting and challenging time, Standard grew into a leading national supplier of print finishing and reprographic equipment with $50M in sales, with significant contributions from Gary. A trusted business advisor and personal confidante of mine as Director of Marketing, Division VP and then Executive VP/COO, Gary worked closely with ownership and Standard’s top sales, marketing and product managers to help create, grow and professionalize Standard’s all-important marketing and public relations functions.
Testament to Gary’s tremendous value (and excellent ROI), Gary was retained as a key consultant, continuing to develop and manage a very successful, industry-leading public relations program. A great strength of Gary’s was his in-depth functional knowledge of Standard’s broad line of technical equipment (electromechanical & digital) and his ability to write about these sophisticated products in understandable English for the benefit of our dealers, customers and potential end users.
Woonteiler Ink’s industry-recognized efforts on behalf of Standard included: launching the nationally acclaimed, cause-related marketing program “Partners Promoting Literacy” (e.g., presenting award to Barbara Bush at a fundraising gala) that continues to this day with Standard’s dealers; ghost-writing hundreds of bylines, case studies and article placements valued at well over a hundred thousand dollars; positioning Standard as industry experts often quoted in trade journals while also generating many high-quality sales leads; producing a countless number of press releases for new product launches; attending, providing and managing communications support at scores of major industry trade shows such as Graph Expo; writing and editing copy for corporate and product brochures, newsletters, other print collateral, and Standard’s website; print advertising; and last but not least, being “one of the family,” providing valuable marketing, management and personal counsel whenever and wherever needed (including helping all of us, and especially me, to become better writers and presenters).
Even though we were unable entice Gary into being our in-house Marketing Director given his strong entrepreneurial spirit, Standard and I felt very fortunate to count on him as a trusted business partner and highly valued outside consultant who was always there for us.
